Lovehoney Sex Toys

With Valentines day fast approaching, relighting the flames of passion and romance may be simpler than you think. To kickstart your love life, sex toys are not the only option – why not head straight to your local supermarket and stock up on some super foods!

According to Dr David Benton, a psychologist at the University of Wales, just thinking about these foods could kick-start a chemical reaction that leaves you emotionally aroused.

‘If you believe that oysters or chocolates will set your heart racing, then you are well on the way to making it happen,’ he says, and honey is a natural superfood that is no exception!

Sex Toys are not the only option

At traditional Indian weddings, the bride offers honey to the groom to boost his stamina – and it could do the same for all men. According to ancient Norse traditions honey was seen as a fertility booster. The Viking newlyweds would drink a cup of mead (honeyed wine) in their first month of marriage to boost their love life. Even in the Far East a cup of honey and a goblet of wine were tied together with a red string in ancient Chinese wedding ceremonies and the bride and the groom would take sips and then exchanged the goblets to symbolise their union of love.

Most potent are honeys from bees that gather nectar from aphrodisiac flowers such as jasmine, orchids or marjoram.

Honey has been considered a love stimulant as far back as 500BC when Greek philosopher (and father of modern medicine) Hippocrates prescribed honey to increase sexual stamina. In Biblical times Palestine was known as the “land of milk and honey,” implying a land full of blessings and fertility. Honey was even claimed to be the nectar the ancient Greek goddess of love – Aphrodite.

Honey for love and its feeding time!

Honey is even mentioned in the Kama Sutra – the word ‘honeymoon’ came from an ancient love tradition when couples would go into their quarters and consume the magical honey drink which was believed would increase their sexual desire and fertility.

Could honey both taste amazing and boost your love life? Is honey really a powerful aphrodisiac?

Honey increases testosterone production in men and the mineral boron found in honey can assist with estrogen levels among women. A scientific study in Integrative Medicine: A Clinician’s Journal found that boron helps assist with the the body’s use of estrogen, testosterone, and vitamin D.

Some of honeys health benefits are even more beneficial to males in the love-making department. Another recent scientific study concluded that a small dose of honey boosted the level of nitric oxide significantly – this is the chemical released in the blood during arousal. In addition to preventing cardiovascular disease, nitric oxide is also one of the the chemicals behind erections. When nitric oxide is released by the blood vessels during physical activity and arousal, blood flow is increased. That is also why many homeopaths recommend ginger and honey for erectile dysfunction.

Honey – The Nectar of the Gods

As you can see, there are many theories on the aphrodisiac powers of this nectar of the gods. Honey is proven to have so many health benefits on its own that you can’t help but feel great eating it. Whether or not you are convinced that honey an aphrodisiac, why not instead think of it as a wonderful romantic gift for the love of your life. It’s a gift we believe they’ll be buzzing about.
